Other Details to Note

Getting to the North Fork

From Connecticut:

Take the Cross Sound Ferry from New London, CT to Orient Point, NY.

  • Cost is approximately $55 for a vehicle and driver plus $15.75 per additional passenger, each way
  • It’s recommended to buy tickets in advance for a specific scheduled departure
  • The ferry ride is 1 hour and 20 minutes
  • The drive from Orient Point to downtown Greenport is approximately 15 minutes or 20 minutes to Southold

From New York City:

We’ve done this trip a lot and find it’s nice to have a car on the North Fork. The best way we’ve found to get there is to:

  • Take the LIRR from Penn Station to Ronkonkoma
  • Then take a $5/person cab from the train station to nearby MacArthur Islip Airport
  • Rent a car and drive the remaining hour to the North Fork

It will be possible to do without a car for the weekend by taking the Hampton Jitney or LIRR all the way to Greenport Station and staying at a hotel in the downtown area within walking distance.

We’re planning to have a shuttle from Greenport to and from the reception. There are plenty of places to hang out within walking distance from Greenport or you can find a ride with a friend to explore the North Fork.

For those coming from Canada:

It’s possible to drive either to New London, CT and follow the instructions above to take the ferry to Long Island, or you can drive through the New York City area and take the scenic route along Long Island.

You can also fly into either JFK or Laguardia airport and rent a car to drive the 2 hours to Greenport. If you’re flying into JFK but want to avoid driving in NYC traffic:

  • You can take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station
  • Connect to the LIRR Ronkonkoma train
  • Then follow the instructions above for renting a car from Islip Airport

Getting Around

Uber is not really a thing yet in Greenport but there are a couple taxi companies you can use if you call ahead:

  • Layyah Taxi - (631) 494-8763
  • Hometown Taxi - (631) 765-5336

If you plan on exploring the North Fork, having your own car is recommended.
